Autry National Center-Wells Fargo Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)

"Off the Rails"

The Bard meets Buffalo Bill’s Wild West when Randy Reinholz’s Off the Rails hits LA’s Autry National Center. This bawdy and irreverent production takes inspiration from Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure. But instead of a tale of virtue and vice in Vienna, you get a cowboy boot-clad Americanized combination of the Union Pacific Railroad, an Indian boarding school, and Madame Overdone’s Stewed Prunes Saloon. Reinholz is a founder and producing artistic director of the Autry’s Native Voices, a program devoted to developing and producing new stage works by Native Americans. Off the Rails is presented as part of the program’s 2014-’15 season, themed Legacy and Loss: Stories From the Indian Boarding School.
