Deep in the Caucus Mountains, in a remote and ancient country roughly translated into English as “The Black Garden,” grew an orchestral ensemble of surpassing sweetness and great beauty: the Artsakh State Chamber Orchestra. The official orchestra of the breakaway republic that claims jurisdiction over a mountainous region in western Azerbaijan, the Chamber Orchestra exemplifies the independent spirit and Armenian roots of its contested homeland. Experience the consummate excellence of this unique ensemble, currently on a rare tour of the United States. Artistic director and conductor Gevorg Muradyan leads the ASCO in a program selected from its vast and varied repertoire, which contains numerous works by Armenian, classical and contemporary composers, at the Alex Theatre.
