David Grisman Quintet: Grateful Dead Collaborator Plays “Dawg” Music
Gindi Auditorium at the American Jewish University (Los Angeles, CA)

For nearly 50 years, mandolinist-composer David Grisman has been busy creating “dawg” music, a unique acoustic blend of so many stylistic influences — including bluegrass, Latin, jazz, folk, rock and even flamenco gypsy — that he gave the genre its own name. Famed for his collaboration and longtime friendship with the Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia, Grisman brings his quintet to American Jewish University in Los Angeles for an intimate evening of acoustic grooves. Hazzan Mike Stein and the Rolling Steins open the show.
