Betrayal is regarded as one of Pinter’s greatest works, as well as a masterpiece of modern theater. The Nobel Prize-winning playwright tells the story of a love affair in reverse, from the meeting of two lovers after the affair ends, traveling back over the course of their relationship. Emma and Jerry carry on a seven-year love affair, believing that Emma’s husband (and Jerry’s best friend) Robert is unaware. It turns out that Robert knew all along, but did nothing. As the story is revealed, the complicated layers of the love triangle peel away, revealing startling truths about the multiple ways people can betray each other.
