The Ivy Substation (Culver City, CA)

"Kurt Weill at The Cuttlefish Hotel"

Welcome to the Cuttlefish Hotel, a dangerous seaside hotel full of intrigue and heartbreak. This waterfront haunt is the setting for Paul Sand’s Kurt Weill at The Cuttlefish Hotel, a cabaret that combines intimacy and horror with the seamlessly woven musical stylings of famed German theatrical duo Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht (The Threepenny Opera). Their now-classic compositions have been performed by everyone from Louis Armstrong to Nina Simone to David Bowie. Now the Actors’ Gang ensemble will take up the pair’s songbook, transporting you with their bewitching voices and sinister stage-stalking seduction. This night of dark theatrical songs — hosted by Culver City’s Ivy Substation — will include “The Ballad of Mack the Knife,” “Pirate Jenny” and other tunes that are thick with fiendish themes of revenge, murder and broken hearts.
