John Hiatt & The Combo and The Taj Mahal Trio

Two of the best singer-songwriters in blues and rock perform on the same night inside the Saban Theatre, an art-deco landmark in Beverly Hills. Taj Mahal is renowned for reviving the rural blues tradition and incorporating elements of world music into the traditional forms. Tunes like “She Caught the Katy (And Left Me a Mule to Ride)” have become blues standards, and have have been covered in the film The Blues Brothers as well as by artists as diverse as James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt and Phish. Taj Mahal will share the bill with John Hiatt, whose lengthy career has made him a giant on both the rock and progressive country music scenes and earned him a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association. Over the years, he’s been most successful at writing hits for other artists like Bonnie Raitt and Ronnie Milsap, but he’s also developed a growing cult following drawn in by his earthy mix of rock, country, blues and folk.
