Outlaw-country icon Willie Nelson commemorates every July 4th by gathering a group of musical greats for a live show. At his 1974 Independence Day concert, he invited cameras to tag along to the Texas World Speedway to record the proceedings. See the result, the rarely shown Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Celebration, on the big screen at Santa Monica’s Aero Theatre. Nelson’s joined onstage by some of country’s biggest stars of the period, including Waylon Jennings, a very drunk Leon Russell, Doug Kershaw and Jerry Jeff Walker, to perform in front of thousands of carousing Texans in a raucous celebration of independence, beer and BBQ.
