Filmmaker Sharon Shattuck’s father shook her family’s very foundation when declaring that she was in fact transgender and changing her name to Trisha. Sharon’s straight-identified mother Marcia was justifiably startled, but chose to stay married regardless. From This Day Forward, co-written and produced by After Tiller‘s Martha Shane, is a powerful and beautifully photographed exploration of Sharon’s parents’ enduring marriage post-transition. The result is a moving and intimate reflection of family life that screens as part of this year’s Outfest in Los Angeles, with Sharon Shattuck in attendance.
