Theatre of Note (Los Angeles, CA)

"Orphans"

Even when suitably prepared, kidnapping a powerful mobster is, well, risky. But when an orphan named Treat abducts the drunken, wealthy and devious Harold, he and his brother, the “simple-minded Phillip, face a threat they hadn’t anticipated: emotional danger. Their prisoner reverses the power dynamic and establishes himself as an unlikely father figure. This testosterone-fueled drama melds realism and absurdity in a way that’s both wickedly funny and emotionally stirring. If you missed Alec Baldwin in the recent Tony-nominated Broadway revival — or the West End or Steppenwolf productions — rush and catch it at Theatre of Note. Starring company members Kjai Block, Darrett Sanders and Bill Voorhees (who also directs), Orphans is, in the words of The New York Times, “theater for the senses and emotions.”
