PEACE FEST encapsulates our passion for social justice and hopes for a brighter future as we shed light on the dark chapters of the history of WWII in Asia. We hope that the engaging programs and art pieces will kindle a meaningful response within you to challenge apathy and intolerance.

Come and join us as diverse communities in Toronto to celebrate the pursuit for peace!

Wind through Mel Lastman Square to find socially conscious art vendors, a unique group of storytellers, chalk art, food vendors, table-tennis exhibitions and tournaments, an art exhibition, and later in the evening – an exciting peace concert.

Tales of Peace and Reconciliation

Featuring storytellers from Birds of a Feather: Rubena Sinha, Diana Tso, Jack Howard, Harriet Xanthakos, Sarah Abu-Sharar, Pat Bisset

Peace Mask Workshop Demonstration

Missed peace mask workshops? Make sure to visit the Peace Mask Project’s booth!

Artist Myong Hee Kim will create peace masks throughout the day with peace mask models. Come dialogue with Myong Hee Kim and communications director Kya Kim to learn more about peacebuilding through the arts!

Bonding through Ping Pong (Table Tennis)

Time: 1pm, 3pm, 5pm

During the Cold War, the “Ping-Pong Diplomacy” marked a thaw in the tense relationship between the United States and China. Through table tennis demonstration and mini tournaments, we hope the spirit of “the ping pong friendship” can be shared among participants.

Take this opportunity to play and learn from:

– former city councillor, Gordon Cressy

– players on the Summer 2015 National Team and Table Tennis Canada: Amy Nichols, Dun Li, Max Xia, and James Yu

– other expert players!

Evening Peace Concert

Time: 7-9pm

Through music and various forms of art performance, we hope the message of peace can connect people of different culture and background, be widespread and become an action rather than a word.

Other than the featured music groups, there will be drama, drum performance, video and peace boat ceremony in the evening.
