"The Girls of Summer"

Inspired by the beloved film A League of Their Own, Layon Gray brings another female-centric baseball tale with The Girls of Summer. Set in the backdrop of 1945, the play follows a coach of an all female African-American baseball team as they gear up for the big game against the all white girls team Rockford Peaches. But when the African-American team’s coach is found dead, racism, sexism, deceit and betrayal are brought to the surface in this powerful drama that was awarded the 2006 NAACP Award for “Best Play.” Celebrating its 10th anniversary, The Girls of Summer hits the stage at Los Angeles’ Avery Schreiber Theatre.
