Opening Reception and Performance: Saturday, October 17, 12-5pm

Berlin based Canadian artist Antonia Hirsch brings her multi-disciplinary project Negative Space to Gallery TPW. Originating from SFU Galleries in Vancouver, the exhibition investigates the interrelation of inner and outer worlds by mobilizing images and objects whose origin ranges from astronomy and contemporary mobile devices to black mirrors of the 18th and 19th century landscape painters. Taking up a history of reflection, Negative Space questions how, through our devicesboth historical and present daywe favour the image over the real.

Throughout the opening reception, Toronto-based bassist Aaron Lumley and cellist Nick Storring will be performing Antonia Hirschs durational Sounding the Universe. This chamber performance invokes the sonic remnants of the Big Bang with which the universe resonates to this day: a B flat 57 octaves below middle C.
