New West Symphony's "Scottish Fantasy"

Exciting young violinist Caroline Goulding and stunning visuals by National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson accompany Maestro Marcelo Lehninger and the New West Symphony for their all-Mendelssohn concert at Santa Monica’s Barnum Hall Theater. Though she’s barely passed the legal drinking age, Goulding’s had a career many musicians can only dream about. Audiences and critics alike have praised her technical polish and have been wowed by her musical maturity. A 2010 Grammy nominee for her debut album, she’s also the recipient of a prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. She’ll make her NWS debut with Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. The German composer’s evocative Fingal’s Cave opens the show, alongside a video featuring Richardson’s sweeping visuals of the Hebrides archipelago that inspired the piece, and the performance closes with Mendelssohn’s lush “Scottish” symphony.
