Royal Cafe is a photo-based journey through rural Alberta’s landscape, streets, and small town Chinese-Western restaurants. Through a collage-like installation of photos, sound, food, and material, the artist seeks to invite wonder while exploring the complex relationship between food, place, and Canadian cultural hybridity.

Elyse Bouvier is a Western-Canadian photographer based in Toronto and holds a B.Comm from Mount Royal University. Her current practice explores issues of community, memory, and place, and she is particularly fascinated with how food intersects with cultural identity. Bouvier has published and presented her research in both Canada and the UK.
