"Asking For It" is a verbatim/documentary play about evolving perspectives on gender roles and sexual consent in the aftermath of the Ghomeshi scandal. The play draws on conversations in 2015-16 with people of all ages concerning their thoughts and experiences around consent to sexual relations, and on interviews with crown prosecutors and legal experts about sexual assault law. The playwright, a young woman, questions the ambiguity in communication about sexual consent — how it is formed and managed personally, culturally, and legally.
