The Chatham-Kent police would like to inform citizens about a local scam.

Yesterday, an elderly Chatham woman received a phone call from an unknown man pretending to be an investigator from her bank. He advised the woman that her bank account had been tampered with and needed her assistance to catch the suspect who he believed to be a bank teller. He instructed her to withdraw $4,100 from her account and meet a man at a plaza on Grand Avenue West. She was to give the money to the man and not to tell anyone about the transaction so he could investigate.

The woman attended her bank and requested to speak to the manager. She began asking questions about her account that caused the manager some concern. Eventually, the woman provided all the details of the call. The manager informed her that this was a scam and called the police.

This Chatham-Kent police remind all citizens to check with their financial institution should they receive a call like this.
