Over the past two weeks Greater Sudbury Police have investigated two separate sexual assaults where the young female victims have connected with the offender through a social internet dating site. Both victims met with the offender for the first time in a private setting and the interaction led to the female being sexually assaulted.

Greater Sudbury Police wish to remind all persons who interact through social network internet sites to be extremely cautious when communicating with unknown persons. Personal and financial information should remain private and if a personal meeting is to take place then select a public place. Never put yourself in a position of vulnerability that will make you a victim of a crime.

The Police want the public to be more cautious in meeting anyone for the first time from these social sites. A safety plan should always be in place so that any unwanted sexual advances can be minimized. A simple safety plan would include always meet in a public place, bring a friend and tell an adult about the meeting.
