FC EdmontonEddies midfielder/striker nets hat-trick against the RailHawks

FC Edmonton began the season not being able to find the back of the net in its first three games.

The next two NASL games saw the team score six goals, four of them have come off the boot of Shaun Saiko and three of them in Sunday’s game versus the Carolina RailHawks. He also added one assist against Minnesota Stars FC on April 22.

“It was amazing to score my first career professional hat-trick in front of my family and friends,” Saiko said. “It definitely was a proud moment for me but most importantly, it was a huge three points for the team and hopefully something to spark us for the rest of the season. It really was a great team effort to get these points. Full credit goes to the boys.”

Saiko is no stranger to the world of professional soccer. The local product signed with FC Edmonton in 2010 after spending the two previous years in England with Middlesbrough.

The talented midfielder has also pulled on the red and white jersey for Canada at the U15-U20 levels and most recently in the U23 Olympic qualifiers where the team narrowly missed earning a spot in the tournament in London.

The team travels to Vancouver on Wednesday to take on the Whitecaps in the second leg of the Amway Canadian Championships (Vancouver leads 2-0). They then move on to Atlanta to take on the Silverbacks in NASL action on May 12.
