SONG SWAP with Allison Brown, Will Gillespie & Myke Mazzei swapping tunes at the Tranzac ‘in the round’ Wednesday, May 30th at 10:00pm Pay What You Can 292 Brunswick Avenue www.tranzac.org www.willgillespie.ca www.modvillains.bandcamp.com Will Gillespie writes a classic sort of song: clever and earnest with infectious melodies over evocative instrumentation. Described as everything from a “Grunge-era Cole Porter” to “a one-of-a-kind old-time crooning, finger-picking genuine songwriter you absolutely MUST see perform…” -(Matt Thompson, the STORMALONGS) He is also well liked for his range and versatility as a writer and performer, charming, campy stage persona and his broad palette of chord voicings and guitar techniques. As one writer puts it: “Will Gillespie’s music has the ability to speak deeply to absolutely ANYBODY.” -(Jeremie Brazeau music aficionato) The Mod Villains are Myke Mazzei’s folk-rock band, formed in the Winter of 2007. We play folk music, we throw in some distortion, and we finish with a mighty crescendo. Myke And The Mod Villains play from the heart and soul of Canadian perspective, be it a dissolving trust in our national government (“Fade”) to wide-open sonic fields (“On Loneliness”). Enjoy the recordings, and come to a show. Allison Brown likes her religion a little bit gritty, takes her country music with a side of syrup and keeps her folk as dusty as the ol cabin floor. With a hatful of broken hearts, bad weather, toils of the road and leaps of faith, Allisons crafted originals matched with classic roots repertoire reflect the striking conviction she brings to her sweet and powerful singing. As a soloist, Allisons lonesome warbles soar over subtle guitar framework, but can turn quickly to a feverish cyclone when joined by her spirited troupe of accompanists. Allison brings her truest self to her collection of songs and to the stage in a refreshing conversation with the audience. A Souwesto songbird with a big voice, Allison offers a clear channel in her hometown in Windsor, Ontario for other Canadian independent musicians operating below the mainstream radar as a regularly featured as music columnist on CBC Radio Windsors Early Shift, and the host of Border City Roots every Monday evening from 5pm to 6pm on CJAM 99.1fm.
