Netherlands Authority to monitor green stricter claims
The Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) plans to increase its scrutiny of companies’ green claims and their compliance with sustainability legislation, according to its latest annual report.
AFM director Laura van Geest said that while companies were making efforts to be sustainable, they often fell short in assessing their impact and communicating effectively. The AFM will focus on substantiating companies’ green claims, particularly those related to carbon credits, and ensuring that only firms that cannot bring their emissions to zero should make use of voluntary compensation.
The report also touched on the role of digitization in personalized insurance policies and the upcoming transition to a new pension system.
