The heart wrenching story of Sarabjit Singh which was revived by director Omung Kumar in the biopic Sarbjit is now all set to go international. We hear that the acclaim that Sarbjit received for its emotional subject will now take it to the Oscars.

Thrilled over the news, producer of the film, Jackky Bhagnani added, “It feels great. This was my first film as a producer and I feel so blessed that we are shortlisted for the oscars in the feauture film category alongside Lalaland Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea, Silence, Arrival, and Hacksaw Ridge. The whole team of Sarbjit has worked very hard on the project and I hope it makes its way to the final list as well.”

From what we hear, Sarbjit that starred Randeep Hooda and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in lead roles has been submitted to the Academy Awards this year but as an independent entry. While the team of the film is receiving congratulatory messages on social media, filmmaker Omung Kumar has been extending his thank you messages to fans and well-wishers. For the uninitiated, the film is based on an Indian farmer, who crosses the border one drunken night, only to be imprisoned by Pakistani military under charges of being a spy.

On the other hand, yet another film which has probably been sent as an entry to the Oscars is none other than MS Dhoni – The Untold Story. This one too is a biographical account of India’s most loved skipper Mahindra Singh Dhoni’s journey from being a passionate cricket fan to a cricket superstar.
