Farhan Akhtar opens up about how his father’s marriage and separation with his mother affected him

He is multi-talented and has made his debut in almost every aspect of filmmaking, whether it is music or singing or acting. However, Farhan Akhtar was recently in news for his divorce with wife Adhuna Bhabani. The couple who has two kids decided to end their 16 year marriage last year and officially got a divorce this week.

On the other hand, Farhan’s father, popular lyricist Javed Akhtar and the celebrity’s mother Honey Irani too have been separated as the former went on to marry award winning actress Shabana Azmi. Farhan and Adhuna’s personal relationship has been in the spotlight of late but the couple has not only been cordial with each other but even their divorce has been quite amicable devoid of mud-slinging and blame-games.

Reportedly, Farhan Akhtar recently went on to add how his parents separation affected him as a child. The director-producer have rarely been vocal about it but this time he spoke candidly where he revealed that it did indeed affect him as a child. While he maintained that parents’ separation is always traumatic for kids, considering that he and Zoya were quite young, it wasn’t really bad.

What also proved lucky for the two of them, according to Farhan, was the smooth bond that they shared with their parents. He stated that as they grew up their whole-hearted conversations with their parents, made them believe that separation is better in the long-run if it gives happiness to them and everyone around.

Also asserting that Javed Akhtar has always been doting dad to them and was there whenever he needed them, Farhan described that her parents have always been friends even after all this and that after the initial hurt of separation, their relation has been ‘rejuvenated’. He also spoke about the close relation he shares with Shabana Azmi.

On the other hand, Javed Akhtar too voiced out similar thoughts wherein he maintained that his kids have grown up watching the mutual admiration that the writer shares with his former wife and their civilized relations was responsible to bring them up in a friendlier and better atmosphere.

He also added that he wasn’t a conventional father but shared a very communicative and democratic relationship with his kids but he also mentioned further that his children are very argumentative.
