Karan Johar says nepotism word haunts him

Kangana Ranaut’s comments about nepotism on Karan Johar’s show Koffee with Karan snowballed into a national controversy that refuses to leave the filmmaker’s side. The filmmaker, who has given celebrity kids a platform, was called out by Kangana on his show when she referred to him as ‘flagbearer of nepotism and movie mafia.’

Since then, Karan Johar has joked about it several times including IIFA Awards 2017 when he mocked Kangana Ranaut with Varun Dhawan and Saif Ali Khan. Although they were criticized for it, the discussion around nepotism continues.

Once again the topic came up during the session at IFFI 2017 this week where Karan Johar was one of the guests. Karan Johar was speaking at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Tired of discussing the same thing again and again, he said, “Can we just put a hold on this word ‘nepotism’? … It haunts me. It has become like ‘mera saaya’ (my shadow). I told somebody that I have developed ‘nepospasm’. It has been following me everywhere. Suddenly, it has become fashionable. Can we just get rid of it and start focusing on good content.”

During the conversation, Karan was asked what changes he would like to witness in the film industry. He responded saying, “I am tired of these live tweet reviews… How can they review when they are not watching the film and are on their phones? I plead for a ban on this.”

On the film front, Karan Johar is producing several films next year including newbies Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor’s film, Dhadak which is being helmed by Shashank Khaitan.
