Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt are clearly two of the young superstars who have found their bearings in Bollywood. Both have an almost uninterrupted run at the box office with one hit after another. This isn't all as together, they have a cent percent success rate ever since they debuted with Student of the Year. Now that they would be seen together in Kalank, one waits to see if they manage to make it four in a row.

Varun Dhawan - Alia Bhatt set to make it four in a row with Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kalank

"It has been one remarkable journey for the two youngsters," says an insider, "Just look at their record so far. They were launched by Karan Johar with Student of the Year and the film was a success. Later, they were seen in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and the film was a big hit. This isn't all as the second in the Dulhaniya franchise, Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya, was an even bigger success as it entered the Rs. 100 crore club. Three films together, and all three successful; that's one enviable record for sure."

No wonder, it only makes Kalank special since it is also the biggest film that the duo has done together.

"This one is an unusual love story and if the revelation of the plot so far, as conveyed through the teaser, is any indication then it is pretty much a tale of unrequited love between the two," says a source attached to the film, "Will they be together or will they not, is a question that the film will answer."

This is also the most intense romantic drama that Varun and Alia have been a part of.

"Student of the Year was light hearted, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya was all fun-n-frolic while Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya still had some dramatic moments. However, Kalank is definitely not a breezy film that one can expect. Karan Johar as well as Sajid Nadiadwala, who have come together to make this film with director Abhishek Varman, were sure that they wanted a different grammar altogether for Kalank which is an intense tale," the insider adds.

This means one can't expect 'Disco Deewane', 'Saturday Saturday' or 'Tamma Tamma' redux with Kalank, just because Varun and Alia are featuring in the Fox Star Studios film.

Of course, Varun has been in song-n-dance affairs for Sajid Nadiadwala in the past well, what with a Rs. 100 Crore Club success Judwaa 2 and action packed Dishoom establishing him in the commercial zone. Still, given the fact that he has already shown his vulnerable side in Shoojit Sircar's October and Alia Bhatt too has got into an out and out dramatic zone with Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Nadiadwala's Highway before, it would be interesting to see the duo together in a different avtar together with Kalank.
