Making their debut under the banner of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Javed Jaffrey’s son Meezan and Sharmin Segal are all set to come together in Malaal. While Sharmin, who is also the niece of Bhansali, is excited to take this first step in Bollywood, the actress spoke about how excited she is for the release. As she gears up to see the hard work transforming on the big screen, Sharmin speaks up on her character Aastha. When she was asked to speak about the film Kabir Singh starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, Sharmin honestly put forth her opinion about the film and called it cringy.

WHAT Malaal actress Sharmin Segal found Kabir Singh cringy and here’s what she had to say!

Talking about Kabir Singh, Sharmin Segal firstly compared the role of Preeti to her role in Malaal as Aastha. She explained that while Aastha’s silence in Malaal is all about her strength, she failed to see the same in the Shahid Kapoor film. Furthermore, she referred to the scene where Kabir slaps Preeti as she continues to beg him to not leave her, Sharmin was left shocked. She said that in a time where women are trying to get empowered and the amount of things that are plaguing the country, this film isn’t helping it. Although she did confess that she loved the performances given by Kiara Advani and Shahid, she feels that the story didn’t resonate with her and that it made her cringe at some points.

Not too long ago, Shahid Kapoor and the rest of the Kabir Singh team faced flak for being misogynist in nature and approach. Despite that, the film has won hearts and is doing brisk business at the box office. It is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy and both the versions were directed by South filmmaker Sandeep Vanga.

On the other hand, coming back to Malaal, while the film marks the Bollywood debut of Meezan and Sharmin Segal, it is directed by Mangesh Halwade. It is slated to release on July 6.
