Says a trade source, “There has been speculation among Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan fans that Ajay was planning to release Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior on December 20 as it’s complete. This would have meant a clash with his friend Salman Khan’s Dabangg 3 but that is definitely not happening. While the film is getting readied for a January 10, 2020 release, Taanaji may get slightly postponed because of post-production work. There has been a bit of delay in the shoot because of the heavy monsoon rains as some patch work remains and VFX is also being done simultaneously. A huge set has been put up in Film City and the remaining portions will be shot September. But Ajay and his team are putting in every effort to make sure that the movie is complete to hit the January 10, BO mark.”

The source adds that Ajay is pulling out all stops to make sure that Taanaji is one of the grandest period dramas one has ever seen. “It has spectacular action, including a sword-fight between Udaybhan Rathod (a Rajput officer appointed by Mughal general Jai Singh) and Tanaji Malusare, intense drama and promises to be a feast for the audience’s eyes. The director Om Raut has researched his subject thoroughly and has directed a movie that will not only touch everybody’s hearts but remain in their memories always. And for that, Ajay is willing to go all the way to make it so. Ajay and Salman will never clash for their movies. Apart from being friends, they are a phone call away and practical when it comes to the box-office. They are producers so they know a clash of movies never helps any producer.”

Taanaji was earlier supposed to release on 27 December, this year, which meant it would have clashed with Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor’s Good Newwz. “That’s also good that the clash is not happening, because it would have meant Saif (Tanhaaji) and Kareena too clashing at the box-office – which now won’t happen!” The source laughs.

Set in the 17th century, Om Raut's Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior is based on the life of the brave warrior and military leader in the army of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Tanaji Malusare. He helped to recapture Kondhana fort near Pune from the Mughals and as a tribute to Taanaji's bravery, the fort was renamed by Shivaji as Sinhagad (Lion's Fort). Taanhaji was so well-known for his valour and bravery that the famous saint and poet Tulsidas had sung a powada (a Marathi ballad centering on wars) describing the bravery with which Taanaji had recaptured Sinhagad.
