USA: Free $30 Oye! Times readers Get FREE $30 to spend on Amazon, Walmart…Legendary musician and sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar passed away earlier today in San Diego, California. He was 92 years old.
Panditji had been ailing for a while and had undergone heart-valve replacement surgery last Thursday at the Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California where he breathed his last. He is survived by his wife Sukanya and daughters Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones.

Pandit Ravi Shankar had a huge influence on even Western musicians like the famous band The Beatles. He was well-known world over as a legendary sitar player. He was even conferred the Bharat Ratna by the Govt. of India.

B-town celebs expressed their heartfelt condolence on social networking site Twitter. Music maestro A.R.Rahman tweeted, "Indian Classical Music has lost its chief ambassador & India its Bharat Ratna..May God bless his soul!" Kailash Kher tweeted, "Pt Ravi Shankar Synonym of music is no more, he has made Sitar (Indian Instrument) international with dignity n Pride, God bless his soul." Nikhil Advani tweeted, "The string broke today… RIP Ravi Shankar." Anupam Kher too expressed his condolence when he tweeted, "Pt. Ravi Shankar's Sitar played for our souls. His music helped us sooth our nerves. His smile was like his music- DIVINE. RIP."
