Says the family's close friend author-journalist Udaya Tara Nayar, "Yusuf Saab is very much conscious and interacting with people close to him. He had tea this morning. And was cheerful. The family hopes to take him home in a few days."
Contrary to rumours, Tara rules out any surgery for the mighty Thespian. "He went through surgery 13 years ago, and now at his age it is impossible to put him through the process. We are all praying for his full recovery in a few days. Then we can take him home."
In the meanwhile the 69-year old Saira Banu who celebrated her birthday just two weeks ago is trying to keep up a brave front.
Says Tara, "Saira has devoted most of her adult life to looking after Yusuf Saab. To her nothing matters more in life than his good health. We are all trying to remain as close to her as possible during this time of stress."
