Known for speaking his heart out, Rishi Kapoor's tweets have very often become a target of scandals and controversies. Sparking yet another political controversy were some of the veteran actor's recent tweets which has also resulted in protest.
A day ago, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor took to Twitter to question the reason behind Congress naming several infrastructures in the country after the Gandhi family and further also went on to say that some popular personalities including Bollywood veterans who have contributed to the development of the nation too should receive a similar honour. Here's a compilation of the tweets posted by Rishi Kapoor that says, "Change Gandhi family assets named by Congress.Bandra/Worli Sea Link to Lata Mangeshkar or JRD Tata link road. Baap ka maal samjh rakha tha? If roads in Delhi can be changed why not Congress assets/property ke naam? Was in Chandigarh wahan bhi Rajeev Gandhi assets? Socho? Why? We must name important assets of the country who have contributed to society. Har cheez Gandhi ke naam? I don't agree. Sochna log! Film City should be named Dilip Kumar,Dev Anand,Ashok Kumar ya Amitabh Bachchan ke naam? Rajeev Gandhi udyog Kya hota hai? Socho doston! Imagine Mohamad Rafi Mukesh Manna Dey Kishore Kumar venues on their name like in our country. Just a suggestion. Why Indira G airport International ? Why not Mahatma Gandhi or Bhagat Singh Ambedkar or on my name Rishi Kapoor. As superficial! What say? Raj Kapoor has made India proud over the years all over even after his death. Certainly more than What has been perceived by politics."
This has obviously irked the members of the Congress, who reportedly, staged a protest outside Rishi Kapoor's residence. After shouting anti-Rishi Kapoor slogans, soon the said protest turned aggressive as stones were being pelted at his residence. Congress officials like PC Chacko accused Rishi of publicity gimmicks, while yet another spokesperson Manish Tewari sarcastically retorted if Rishi Kapoor had any movies beyond Bobby he was famous for.
On the other hand, BJP, national secretary Shrikant Sharma seems to agree with the tweets and claimed that while one family received all the benefits, the others who fought for the nation were forgotten.
As far as the Bollywood fraternity is concerned, Anupam Kher came in support of Rishi Kapoor and appreciated his courage to post his thoughts uninhibitedly on social media. Interestingly, Anupam's wife and actress Kirron Kher is also a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
