Cricket is undoubtedly termed as a religion in India and rightly so, as people hail these sports personas as heroes. The iconic 1983 World Cup win which included some renowned names like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar among others will now be presented on celluloid.

Recently, when the former Indian cricket team got together to mark the anniversary of the much celebrated win of 1983 at a suburban five star hotel in Mumbai, the consequence was yet another cricket film in Bollywood. Amidst the flow of celebratory champagne, food and dance, the cricketers signed papers where they handed over the rights of making a film on the 1983 World Cup win to Phantom Films, co-owned by Anurag Kashyap, Madhu Mantena, Vikramaditya Motwane and Vikas Bahl. Spotted at the ceremony was also Madhu who was in high spirits after the deal was sealed. India had won the 1983 match against West Indies which also had Sir Vivian Richards playing the game. Incidentally, Madhu Mantena the producer of this upcoming film is the son-in-law of the West Indies former cricketer Sir Vivian Richards, as his wife Masaba Gupta is a love child of Vivian and Bollywood actress Neena Gupta.

From what we hear, the film that traces the journey of India's most iconic victory in the world of cricket, will go on floor by the end of this year or may be early next year. As of now, the casting and other details are yet to be finalized.
