Willem Houtzager, 66 and Sunita Roy, 34 charged with fraud

On Tuesday, May 11, 2010, police arrested a man and woman in a fraud investigation.

It is alleged that:

– from December 2007 to the present, the man and woman knowingly and repeatedly entered into lease agreements for upscale ($2,500-to-$8,000-a-month apartments), with no ability to meet their rental obligations, thus obtaining nearly three years of accommodation with a value of approximately $115,000, for nearly nothing,

It is further alleged that:

– the suspects defrauded at least two investors of $74,000 in total by promising a high rate of return on their money,

– no money has been recovered.

Willem Houtzager, also known as William, 66, of the Netherlands, and Sunita Roy, 34, also known as Shakti, of Toronto, were arrested and charged with:

1) three counts of Fraud Over.

Willem Houtzager was charged, additionally, with:

1) Attempt Fraud Over.

They were scheduled to appear in court at College Park, on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, room 501, at 10 a.m.

Police believe there may be more victims.
