Six People Arrested in Armed Robbery and Kidnapping
The Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad would like to make the public aware of a lengthy investigation stemming from a robbery and kidnapping that has resulted in six arrests.
During the early morning hours on, Thursday, May 19, 2022, officers responded to a call in the Fort York Boulevard and Spadina Avenue area.
It is alleged that:
- the victim and a friend were invited to an address for a party
- when they arrived, they were met by several male and female suspects
- several of the suspects produced handguns and made demands for the victim’s belongings
- they assaulted the victim as they took his jewellery, cellphones, vehicle keys and cash
- the victim was then zip-tied, taken outside and forced into a vehicle operated and driven away from the scene by one of the suspects
- other involved suspects drove the victim’s vehicle away from the scene
- the victim’s friend remained at the original address and contacted police
The victim was able to escape from the suspect’s vehicle and was located by officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along highway 401. The OPP officers then located the victim’s stolen vehicle and took one male suspect into custody. The victim’s vehicle was recovered.
On Thursday, May 19, 2022, members of the Hold Up Squad executed a Criminal Code Search Warrant in relation to the investigation.
It is further alleged that:
- at the time of the search, officers recovered items of evidentiary value related to the investigation
Believe David Kashala, 25, of Brampton, was arrested and charged with:
- Robbery With Firearm
- Kidnapping
- Forcible Confinement
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over
He was scheduled to appear in court for a Bail Hearing on Friday, May 20, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the Old City Hall Court, 60 Queen Street West, Room 111.
Members of the Hold Up Squad continued the investigation and were able to identify several of the remaining suspects.
On Monday, July 4, 2022, members of the Hold Up Squad, with the assistance of the Toronto Police Service Integrated Gun & Gang Task Force, observed one of the suspects travelling in a vehicle being driven by an unidentified man. Officers stopped the vehicle and took the occupants into custody.
It is further alleged that:
- at the time of arrest, officers recovered two loaded handguns
Sharmarke Farah, 25, of Mississauga, was arrested and charged with:
- Robbery With Firearm
- Kidnapping
- Forcible Confinement
- Extortion
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over
- two counts of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- two counts of Possession Loaded Firearm
- two counts of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- two counts of Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing it’s Possession is Unauthorized
- Careless Storage of Firearm
- two counts of Possession Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Careless Storage of Firearm
- Conspiracy to Commit Indictable Offence
He was scheduled to appear in court for a Bail Hearing on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at the Toronto West Court, 2201 Finch Avenue West, Room 206.
Mohamed Abdulle, 30, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:
- two counts of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- two counts of Possession Loaded Firearm
- two counts of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- two counts of Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing it’s Possession is Unauthorized
- Careless Storage of Firearm
- six counts of Possession Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Careless Storage of Firearm
- Operate Conveyance While Prohibited
He was scheduled to appear in court for a Bail Hearing on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at 10 a.m., at the Toronto West Court, 2201 Finch Avenue West, Room 206.
On Monday, July 4, 2022, members of the Hold Up Squad executed a Criminal Code Search Warrant in relation to the investigation. During the search, one of the female suspects was located and taken into custody.
It is further alleged that:

Suweida Abdulle, 24, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:
- Robbery With Firearm
- Kidnapping
- Forcible Confinement
- Extortion
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- two counts of Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over
- Conspiracy to Commit Indictable Offence
She was scheduled to appear in court for a Bail Hearing on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at 10 a.m., at the Old City Hall Court, 60 Queen Street West, Room 111.
Continued investigation by members of the Hold Up Squad revealed that Mohamed Abdulle, previously arrested on July 4, 2022, was also involved in the original robbery and kidnapping incident. On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, while still in custody, officers charged him with further offences.
Mohamed Abdulle, 30, of Toronto, was further charged with:
- Robbery With Firearm
- Kidnapping
- Forcible Confinement
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over
He was scheduled to appear in court for a Bail Hearing on Thursday, November 16, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the Old City Hall Court, 60 Queen Street West, Room 111.
Efforts were made to locate the second female suspect without success so a warrant for her arrest was obtained. On Thursday, January 12, 2023, officers from the Canada Border Services Agency located the female suspect and took her into custody.
Lauren Finisterre, 23, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with:
- Robbery With Firearm
- Forcible Confinement
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Conspiracy to Commit Indicatable Offence
She was scheduled to appear in court for a Bail Hearing on Friday, January 13, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Old City Hall Court, 60 Queen Street West, Room 111.
Efforts were made to locate the last male suspect without success and a warrant for his arrest was obtained. On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, members of the Hold Up Squad located the male who was already in custody for an unrelated matter.
Deon Darkwa, 19, of Toronto, was charged with:
- Robbery With Firearm
- Kidnapping
- Forcible Confinement
- Extortion
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over
- Fail to Comply Release Order
- Conspiracy to Commit Indicatable Offence
He was scheduled to appear in court for a Bail Hearing on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Old City Hall Court, 60 Queen Street West, Room 111.
