London-based filmmaker Maysoon Pachachi & Baghdad-based novelist Irada Al Jabbouri are raising funds to make Another Day in Baghdad, a story based in lived experience and set in Iraq’s capital in Winter 2006:

‘another day in baghdad’: two women authors in post-invasion iraq

From organizers:

Rooted in the real life experiences of two female authors in post-invasion Iraq (2006), the film unites cast & crew from the Middle East & Europe for the first ever international film production led by a female director of Iraqi origin.

Co-written by award-winning London-based filmmaker Maysoon Pachachi & Baghdad-based novelist Irada Al Jabbouri, the script won the IWC Schaffhausen Script Award – presented by Cate Blanchett in 2012.

This will be the second collaboration between Pachachi and Al Jabbouri. They previously worked together on the documentary film & book project Open Shutters Iraq: Our Feelings Took the Pictures, a project through which a group of women refugees from five Iraqi and Syrian cities were guided in taking photographs and presenting their lives to each other.

Those who donate can get printed copies of the screenplay, Open Shutters, or a copy of two anthologies to which Pachachi contributed: Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here or We are Iraqis: Aesthetics and Politics in a Time of War.
