Rajan ZedPortishead Primary School students in England recreated and celebrated a Hindu wedding in a workshop recently and it was reportedly an “enriching experience”.

Year three students of the school, who are researching various perspectives of life in India, have already tried Indian cuisine and adopted a tiger from India, reports suggest.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, described it as a “step in the right direction”. He stressed the need of organizing a Hindu Day in all the primary schools of United Kingdom (UK) where children should learn about basic concepts, symbols, art, music and traditions of Hinduism.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out that awareness about other religions thus created by organizing such days would make the UK pupils well-nurtured, well-balanced, and enlightened citizens of tomorrow. It also made a good business sense to know the beliefs of “others” in a global community. Moreover, students should have knowledge of the entire society to become full participants in the society.

Richard Riordan, Headteacher of Portishead Primary School in North Somerset of about 450 children overlooking beautiful marina, describes it as a “dream factory”. Elizabeth Lockwood is the Chair of Governors of this School, whose tagline is “Learning and achieving together”, which has a Spanish Club and Swahili was its chosen language of the term.

History of coastal town Portishead goes back to prehistoric times and prominent people associated with it include actor Johnny Briggs and media personality Carol Vorderman.
