Hindus have offered condolences on the death of His Eminence Cardinal Edmund Casimir Szoka; Archbishop emeritus of Detroit, President emeritus of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State and of the Governorate of Vatican City State; who died on August 20 in a Michigan (USA) hospital.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that they were saddened by the passing of Cardinal Szoka, 86, highly influential leader of Roman Catholic Church of his time, whose motto was “To Live in Faith”.

A very spiritual man with great inner strength, Cardinal Szoka, besides his own Catholic faith, also cared for members of other faith communities. He sometimes oversaw the Church in a highly difficult and critical period and some of his accomplishments were larger than life, Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out.

Rajan Zed further said that Cardinal Szoka worked for social justice and end to racism and cared for the distressed.
