Online Games can now be played by people with disabilities
The online game industry has started taking notice of gamers with disabilities and making their games more accessible.
Companies like Sony are indicating the accessibility options a game has in their online store. Abstraction, a Brabant company, is also working on visual accessibility options, such as different color palettes, to help colorblind gamers. Major games like Horizon Forbidden West and Hogwarts Legacy have added features for non-standard players, while Elden Ring has faced criticism for not doing enough to help the visually impaired.
More attention is being given to accessibility in the gaming industry, with international award ceremonies recognizing innovation in this area. This trend is developing as accessibility is now being considered at the design stage, rather than added as an afterthought. Although major brands are starting to pay attention, there is still room for improvement, particularly in making controllers more accessible for those with physical disabilities. Nonetheless, progress is being made, and adjustments are being made to help blind gamers play games like The Last of Us.
