Musical The Bodyguard in Manchester shut down

According to reports from BBC, a showing of the musical The Bodyguard in Manchester was forced to stop due to loud singing from some members of the audience.

During the rendition of the hit song “I Will Always Love You” by lead actress Melody Thornton, some audience members sang out of tune and disrupted the performance. Despite attempts by theater staff to quiet the audience, the disturbance persisted and the lights were eventually switched on.

Security personnel removed two individuals from the balcony who were singing along, but the incident caused the cancellation of the remainder of the show, including the planned ensemble performance of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” The audience had been previously instructed not to sing along.

Actress Melody Thornton expressed her disappointment in not being able to complete the show, saying that she had fought hard for it. Co-actor Ayden Callaghan described the behavior of the disruptive audience members as appalling and expressed regret that they had spoiled the experience for the vast majority of attendees.

The Bodyguard is a musical adaptation of the 1992 film of the same name, featuring the songs of Whitney Houston. The show had previously been staged in the Netherlands from 2015 to 2017 and was recently brought back to Dutch theaters this year.
