Commissioner Lokai Iko briefing the media at the construction site in Riwoto Payam [©Gurtong]A standard building to house the Kapoeta North County Couty Headquarters in Eastern Equatoria State is currently undergoing construction by an Ethiopian construction company -MBF after being contracted by United Nations office for Project Services (UNOPS).

The County Commissioner Mr. Lokai Iko and the County Executive Director, Mr. David Eriga Enodius told Gurtong last Saturday that the ongoing flourishing construction in Riwoto, the present County Headquarters was near completion.

The construction is supported with funding from South Sudan Recovery Fund, a joint donation from two Governments of United Kingdom (through Department of International Development, DFID) and Netherlands respectively plus a small contribution from the State Government of Eastern Equatoria State.
  
Commissioner Lokai Iko  Loteyo clarified that after the Government contracted UNOPS following a bidding process, UNOPS acted as an implementing agency and took a further initiative to contract the MBF Construction Company to undertake the ongoing construction of County Headquarters with the County authority and the State Government being supervisors of the construction which started in mid May 2011. 
  
Upon its completion, the building with 24 spacious rooms shall be used to house all County line Departments or units headed by different Assistant Commissioners for sectors like Agriculture, Cooperative, Health, Community Development among others.

While speaking to Gurtong on behalf of MBF at the construction site, Mr. Habte Mariam Haileyes, an official who doubles as an MBF’s welder said that the construction is expected to end soon. He clarified that the roofing had already started and projected to be complete in a weeks’ time. 
  
The County Executive Director, Mr. Eriga, Mr. Haileyes informed Gurtong that tinted glasses ordered from Ugandan have arrived in Juba and are expected in the County soon. 
  
He assured the County Executive Director that ceiling materials will be fixed soon and tiles will be put on the floor including other finishing materials ordered from Kampala. 
  
One of the MBF’s employees, Mr. Dubale Tilahun who identifies himself as MBF’s foreman, jointly briefed Gurtong that a spacious modernized Kitchen, fine toilets with washrooms adjacent to hand-wash podiums with hi-tech water system have been done apart from a superior generator that shall be used to supply electrical power to the entire office block.

Mr. Eriga confirmed to Gurtong that furnishing the whole building with sophisticated office equipments including computers shall be done immediately after a completion of the construction by a competent contractor whom he dint immediately disclose.
