The Interior Minister Alison Manani Magaya told the media that his ministry will intensify night patrols in a bid to rid the city of crime.
The Minister affirmed that his ministry will target armed criminals who have wreaked havoc in most parts of Juba and its environs.
“We have resolved to shoot criminal gangs who resist arrest by the police. However, if they surrender with their guns, we will only arrest them and not harm them in any way”, he said.
He at the same time, admitted that there have been serious security issues in Juba, but attributed it to “people with political motives to disorganise his ministry’s work”.
Magaya also admitted that his ministry was facing numerous challenges, citing logistics and sour relationships between the police and the citizens.
“We have to admit that there are problems. When we came to office last year, we found that there was need for training of the law enforcers as well as improvement of infrastructure”, he said.
The minister attributed the deteriorating security in Juba to the influx of foreigners from all parts of the world.
“My ministry is also putting measures to ensure that only foreigners with proper documents enter the country”, said Magaya.
Meanwhile, a policeman killed himself after shooting two people dead in the Western Bahr el Ghazal State capital Wau.
