The State Minister for Physical Infrastructure Adak Costa Mapuor has said a major road construction and rehabilitation of bridges will be undertaken by the national government in a few months’ time.

She added that Bar-Naam Bridge will be repaired and key water streams in counties opened up to allow the state residents access water.

Bar-Naam Bridge connects the Greater Equatoria to the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region.

“Already contracts for roads construction and rehabilitation of bridges have been awarded to Eyat Construction Company. The road connecting Juba and passing through Awerial to Yirol, Nyang and to Shambe is one of the seven roads that will be constructed by the company”, said Mapuor.

She at the same time acknowledged receipt of concerns by the Gok community over challenges in accessing water, especially during floods.

The Minister also admitted that the current austerity measures being implemented by the South Sudanese government have denied her Ministry sufficient resources to pursue its mandate.
