The Ugandan national identified as Peter Nyanzi was reportedly killed by unknown assailants on Sunday evening as he walked to his house after closing business for the day.

His body that was found Monday morning was taken to Wau Hospital for a postmodern examination.

A member of the Ugandan business community in Wau Albert Dennis told Gurtong that the deceased was a peaceful person and wondered who could have committed the heinous act.

“Peter did not have any problem with anybody since coming to Wau town. We are deeply shocked by his killing”, said Dennis.

Following news of the incident, hundreds of Ugandans closed their shops and took to the streets before gathering in front of the State Teaching Hospital where they demanded the transfer of the deceased’s body to Uganda for burial.

They blamed the state authorities of not providing them with adequate security.

This is not the first incident in which Ugandans have been attacked in Wau.

Two months ago a Ugandan was injured in the leg when unidentified armed men attacked a hotel and started firing indiscriminately.

A local police officer Captain Lino Uchalla said the incident was being investigated and called for calm.
