Machar made the announcement on Thursday during the launch of the National Inter-School Competitions at Rumbek Freedom Square.

“The 2013 South Sudan independence anniversary celebrations will be hosted here in Rumbek and more sport fields will be opened by government”, said Machar.

The Vice President appealed to the students to cooperate for the smooth running of the school competitions.

On the Friday, Warrap State Volleyball boys beat Unity State 3-1 at Ager-gum playground while Warrap girls also beat Yambio girls 3-0 at Rumbek Secondary School.

The Rumbek beat Jonglei 47- 41 in basketball while Warrap also won their game against Juba Boys with 77 baskets compared to Juba’s 65.

Secondary schools from all the ten states of South Sudan are expected to participate in the sporting events.

The games include athletics, volleyball, football, basketball and tennis.

The competitions will be used to select the best teams to represent the country at the East African Secondary Games Championships later in the Burundian capital, Bujumbura.
