The Agriculture Minister Mayen Ngor Atem toured Twic-East County in Bor South where he noted that the yield is above average and the areas of Bor North were devastated by the rains.

“The harvest this year in Bor South is above average but Mathinag, Jale, up to Twic-East in Bor North, were actually devastated by floods,” he said.

The minister encouraged the citizens to participate in agricultural activities to boost production as a lot of education and extension services can be accessed in the rural areas.

He said that the issue of birds destroying crops along River Nile will have to be addressed as it is affecting the government efforts in ensuring food security.

The minister advised the residents to plant drought tolerant crops like sorghum and fence around their farms to prevent animals from destroying crops.
