A release signed by the Minister said, “The president directed the Ministry of Interior and the other security organs to provide security in the Republic of South Sudan to enable the people celebrate the Christmas in a peaceful and secured environment.”

He said that the directive of the president was well received by the concerned forces and that all the forces were deployed according to the security plan which was prepared with the implementation that started on the 15 December, 2012 through 2013.

The minister in the release expressed happiness over what he termed as success by the forces in carrying their duties and obligation effectively leading to the peaceful Christmas celebrations and the New Year.

“We sincerely thank the Police, the National Security, the SPLA and the other organised forces, in their different in the country for providing security to the people of South Sudan at this crucial period of peace and joy,” he said.

He encouraged the police to keep the standard of cooperation with the citizens.

Meanwhile bullets were fired to mark the New Year in South Sudan with Juba experience a serious shouting in civilian areas.

Some local media has reported that four people were injured on the New Year shoot out.
