In what appeared as commitment and intensification of relations in the implementation of the deal, the Sudanese Ambassador to South Sudan Mutrif Sadiq had a closed door meeting with South Sudanese Minister of Petroleum and Mining Hon. Stephen Dhieu to discuss the progress of the oil production and operation of the oil facilities.

In a statement to the press, Dhieu stated the commitment of both sides on the implementation of the deal.

“I want to assure the people in the two countries in the Republic of South Sudan and Sudan that the two Ministries of Oil are committed to fully implement the oil and related issues,” Dhieu said.

“This is to establish a strategic cooperation that should be a bridge,” he added.

Ambassador Sadiq also pointed out his government efforts to fully execute the deal, saying on Tuesday Sudanese Minister of Oil travelled to Heglig in a bid to acquaint himself with the operation of the oil facilities.

“Things are going well and yesterday [Tuesday] the Minister of Oil in Sudan visited Heglig and he assured the safety and the arrival of the oil from Tharjus and Unity State to the Central Procession in Heglig. All the preparations are underway with regards to the other oil fields in Upper Nile State,” Saqiq said.

However, despite the commitment of the duo on the implementation of the oil deal, peace and relations between the two countries is likely to be shaken unless concentration is also put to implement the other eight deals in the Cooperation Agreement.
