Members of the Kapoeta South Women Association, the women residing in Kapoeta town have demanded that the facility be immediately moved 7 kilometres away from the town centre.

The chairlady of Kapoeta South County Women Association Hellen Orasion on Sunday launched a petition to the Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore to consider re-locating the barracks, saying the SPLA soldiers’ presence in the town continues to threaten peace in the town.

The women allege that some soldiers terrorise civilians by shooting unnecessarily in Kapoeta South town, resulting into injuries and breach of peace.

The petition also claims that many women in Kapoeta South County have been sexually abused by soldiers who escaped from the barracks.

The Kapoeta South County Commissioner Martin Lorika Lojam has however, denied the claims, saying no soldier has ever been apprehended on such charges.

He however, admitted that some soldiers were shooting haphazardly, hence disturbing the peace in the town.

He assured the local residents that their request will be considered.
