Under the theme ‘Education of Peace,’ the UNMISS team and the Kenyan Peacekeepers in the state turned out in large number to mark the day.

The UNMISS State Coordinator Mr. Luis Perez said the day is dedicated to the importance of peace and how the communities should campaign for the peaceful coexistence among themselves.

While reading out the UN Secretary General’s message for the day, Perez emphasized the role peace can play within the community, saying peace is not the absence of conflict but rather solution to conflict.

“This is a very historic day for all of us especially the peace lovers and peace makers around the globe.. The day is such important that it carries a message from our Secretary General to all of us here,” he said.

“Peace is a tool that plays a vital role in every community and hence without peace, there will be nothing we can talk about on this earth.

“Let us join hands together and embrace peace for the peaceful coexistence within our community and around the globe for better future of our next generation,” he appealed to the participants during the celebration.

The state Coordinator of Peace Commission in NBGS, William Kolong urges the participants especially students to be ‘peace-loving children and sow the seeds of unity and harmony across in their studies.

He also appealed to the school administration to develop a strategy of introducing an interactive youth linguistic evening classes where both youth who grew abroad and those within could learn from each other.

Kolong, who also heads a local national Non-Governmental Organization [NNGO] known as Pan Aweil Development, pledged to support the interactive to promote interaction amongst the students who are Arabic and English pattern.
