Speaking to the press after his appointment, James Nyuany Chakuoth said he will work with all levels of government to make sure that services are delivered effectively to the people.
“I will work with the executive, legislature and counties as one body for the welfare of the people of the State and South Sudan in general,” he said.
The nomination of Chakuoth by the SPLM party as a candidate for the post of the speaker comes as a surprise to the rest of the minority but no rejection was made by the party members except few other party members yet the State Governor who is also SPLM Chairperson insisted on his appointment as the new speaker “will work for the interest of the party.”
The caretaker Governor has also appointed Hon. Martin Mashod Deng as the chief whip replacing James Nyuany Chakuoth who took over the speaker’s position.
The deputy speaker appreciated and welcomed the elected speaker and promises to work closely.
A section of the MPs raised concern that the former speaker Hon. Simon Maguek Gai was removed from the office unlawfully.
