In particular, Onyoti welcomes the pardon granted to his party head Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin saying the pardon now clears off government bad intention presumed earlier on Lam. 

“Now the President has come to that we are very happy with that,” Onyoti said in a statement to the press yesterday.

“The government had bad intention on Dr. Lam. Now the President giving amnesty it is now clear that the government had bad intention on Dr. Lam,” Onyoti said.

The Minority leader in the South Sudan National Parliament denied any allegation claimed on his party of supporting militia groups in South Sudan.

Dr. Lam Akol, President’s Kiir challenger during the 2010 Sudan’s general elections has since remained in exile after loosing the elections in fear of being harassed by Kiir’s SPLM ruling party following accusations that, he supports militia groups fighting the South Sudan’s government.

On Monday Kiir released an unconditional order pardoning Dr. Lam Akol and Abdurrahman Sule, the leader of the Opposition Party, the United Democratic Front (UDF).

Sule has been in detention for nearly two years now after he was arrested in Western Equatoria state.

Kiir also granted an amnesty to several other militia leaders urging them to come home.

The move is swiftly welcomed by right groups, saying it will better democratic transformation in the country.
