The Director of HIV/AIDS directorate at the State Ministry of Health Garang Kuol Mabior told Gurtong in Aweil that the celebrations were marred by inadequate preparations.

“It was unfortunate that we did not have adequate funding to prepare for the important event as advised by the South Sudan AIDS Commission (SSAC).  This was occasioned by delays in disbursement of funds by the national finance ministry. That caused the last minute postponement of the event”, he said.

He at the same time announced that the event has been slated for February next year at a date to be confirmed.

President Salva Kiir was expected to grace the event in the company of several top government officials.

Mabior at the same time attributed to rising cases of new infections to ignorance and alcoholism, saying the youth were the most hit.

The official lamented that the state residents have not adequately utilised the Voluntarily Counseling andTesting centre to check on the spread of the disease.

He dismissed recent allegations of poor services offered by the facility, saying the facility’s doors are always open to the public.
